Wasted Time

Do you really want to spend 26% of your time managing an employee who isn't the right fit_ (1).png

This is a reminder for hiring managers who are discouraged with the amount of time it's taking to find the right person and are tempted to hire the next person who walks in the door with just enough functional skills. Resist the urge - it's not worth it!

It's definitely expected that you will need to spend time onboarding and coaching new employees, but if it takes up 26% of your time ongoing, that's defeating the purpose of the hire. That experience doesn't feel good to the new employee either.

This stat is according to a 2018 Robert Half survey of CFOs, estimating average costs of coaching underperforming employees. In the same survey, they found that it negatively impacts the morale of your team. They estimated monetary cost of a "bad hire" as $24K in a similar 2014 survey. If you've experienced it, you know all of this to be painfully true.
