Pre-Interview Routine

Whether you're a job seeker, interviewer or hiring manager, I recommend having a pre-interview routine like this one so you can get rid of any nervous energy and focus before walking into the room.

- Do Your Research - Make sure you know enough to feel comfortable about the role, company, or candidate. Not having the correct context and understanding before the interview can cost you the role or new hire.
- Examples (or Questions) Ready - Know what you're going to talk about and where you want to steer the conversation.
- Release Energy - If you're feeling nervous, do something that "gets your sillies out" and also builds confidence. This could be a walk around the block, 10 minute workout or dancing to your favorite song.
- Cultivate Calm - After getting your energy out, use your favorite method to tune in. Meditation, breathwork or mindfully making your favorite cup of coffee can help keep you calm.
- Set Your Intention - What is your expectation going into this interivew? Keep it positive, realistic and not entirely focused on the outcome of getting the role or new hire. Meeting someone new, learning about the company, building confidence in your interview skills are all examples of sensible, bite-sized goals to have.

What else would you add to this list? Let me know!
