Components of a Successful Interview

These are all important components of a successful interview. It's always helpful to make a good first impression, and have great examples, but what I really want to highight today is the connection component.

How do you make a connection with the person you're talking to in an interview? Whether you're a job seeker or hiring manager, do your part to make the interaction a flowing conversation rather than question and answer session. Build trust during the interview by being yourself and remember that you're interacting with another human being who may also be feeling nervous.

Even if it isn't the right fit, genuine connection during the interview can still get you closer to your goal - if you're a job seeker, you may be referred for another position at the company. If you're a hiring manager, the person you interviewed may become a potential customer who tells their friends about your company and the great experience they had talking to you.

What barriers have you run into trying to connect during an interview? Let me know!
