Shout out to my lovely husband for the suggestion to include a question for managers in this diversity, equity and inclusion series. 😘

If you are a manager, you may have an example that pops into mind if you were asked this question in an interview. If you've never had something come up, be proactive and find training or a class so you can be prepared because they do happen. This is a question where the interviewer may find it appropriate for you to answer in the hypothetical if it hasn't happened to you before, as they may be assessing both functional (working with HR) and soft skills.

This question is broad enough that there is a lot of room to ask follow up questions and gather a lot of good data from a candidate. When asking it, it's important to understand all of the context of the situation to identify any green/yellow/red flags or areas of strength and opportunity.

Do you know how you'd answer this question, or would expect a candidate to?
