2021 Hiring Trends: Skills Gap

As part of a 2021 hiring trends report, @monster stated that 87% of employers say they're struggling to fill a position because of skills gap. Have you identified skills gap as an issue for you? Here are some tips that may help combat it:

- Whether you're a potential employee or hiring manager, look at crossover skills to identify any areas you haven't considered - either for a new type of role to consider, or other areas of experience to look for in a candidate.
- If you're looking for a job, is there anything in the basic or preferred qualifications lists you see over and over that you don't have experience with? Take a class, apply it to your side hustle, read a book - do your best to fill the gap.
- For hiring managers, if someone is mostly qualified with just one small gap or two, is it worth investing in training them as part of their ramp up plan? Measure the effort and time it will take to find someone with all the qualifications you're looking for vs. what it would take you to teach a candidate who is a great fit otherwise.
