Interviewers Get Nervous, Too

I still remember an interview early in my career where I know I was more nervous than the candidate. We ended up hiring him and even after working with him for years, I still wonder what his first impression of me was. 😬

It happens, we're all human. It's not only scary to be interviewed for a job, sometimes it's scary to be the person asking the questions, taking the notes and making the decision.

So what helps with this? Set the right expectation with yourself going into the interview. As the interviewer or hiring manager, be aware of the power dynamic, but also go into it knowing that you'll meet someone new and have a great conversation. Don't let the pressure or desperation get to your head. Also- practice, practice, practice. The more interviews you have under your belt, the less you'll experience this. Mock interviews are a great way to do this in a low-risk setting- reach out to me for support!

As the candidate, it can be comforting to remember that the person interviewing you may also be nervous, just for different reasons. If they slip up, treat them the way you'd expect them to treat you. ❤
