Follow Up Interview Questions
These are the follow up questions I ask the most often in interviews after the initial behavioral interview question. Job Seekers- Use these to prepare for your next interview or get ahead of the interviewer's follow up question. Hiring Managers- make sure your candidate is giving you this level of detail when you interview them.
⠀
1- "We" vs. "I" - It's important to know what the candidate's specific role in the example was. Candidates often want to say "we" to show they're a team player, but it can weaken their responses if unclear.
⠀
2- Timeline - I often ask questions about projects that have crazy deadlines, or where sacrifices had to be made to get something done. It's helpful to know what the actual timeline was for these types of questions as a candidate's definition of a tight deadline might be vastly different than the interviewer's. I ask similar questions for more detail related to other types of constraints (budget, stakeholders, etc) for the same reasons.
⠀
3- Measure Success/Impact - If your project was successful, have data ready to back it up. Even better, give the interviewer the data before they ask.
⠀
4- Looking Back - There's always room for improvement. A candidate's thoughtful response around what they would do differently helps provide insight into their growth and how they might handle a similar situation now.

Do these follow up questions look familiar to you? Are there others you hear or have said more often?
